Obituary for Russell Frederick Gee

Russell Frederick Gee (May 31, 1927-Aug. 30, 2018) of Rochester Hills is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bonnie; children, Wyatt (Leola), Greg, and Rhonda Kerr (Bill); grandchildren, David Kerr, Christopher Gee (Juanita), Lauren Myers (Christopher); and great granddaughter, Alexis.

Russ was born in Washington, PA. After high School he served two years in the U.S. Army and was sent to the Philippines. After serving, he attended Carnegie Tech and earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He later earned an MBA from Oakland University.

Upon graduation from Carnegie Tech, he joined Pontiac Motor Division as a Project Engineer. During a GM career that spanned 36 years, he was instrumental in a number of programs, including:

Development of the 1957 Pontiac for NASCAR racing
Instrumental in the creation of the 1964 GTO
Heading up the six cylinder OHC sprint engine program (1965)
Development of the GTO Judge (1969)
Development of the 455 SD engine (1975)
He was promoted to Assistant Chief Engineer (1973)
Development of the Turbocharged 301 (last high performance V8 produced by GM) (late 1970s)
He was promoted to Director of Powertrain Systems for Chevrolet-Pontiac-GM of Canada (1984); he was involved in developing the LT1 Corvette engine, in addition to providing support for NASCAR teams running Chevrolets

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Highland Park Baptist Church, Paws with a Cause, The American Cancer Society.
