Obituary for Telton Rodney Rogg

Telton Rodney Rogg died May 13, 2019, in Rochester, MI after a short battle with kidney cancer at the age of 87.
Mr. Rogg is survived by Mary Jo Rogg, his wife of 62 years; sons Jeffrey Rogg, of Menominee, MI; Brian (Erin) Rogg of Jupiter, FL; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Ward of Gaylord, MI; two nephews and three nieces.
Mr. Rogg was born in Pontiac, MI on January 25, 1932, the son of a policeman and a book keeper, Telton and Mabel Rogg. Mr. Rogg was a proud Boy Scout during his youth, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1954, with a degree in biology and teaching; he later earned a Master’s Degree in biology at the University of Michigan. After serving his country honorably in the United States Army, as a dental assistant at Ft. Richardson in Alaska, he married Mary Jo in 1956. The couple met as freshmen at a college dance.
After moving to Rochester, MI, Mr. Rogg began a long teaching career at the Rochester Community Schools in 1956, at both Central and Reuther Junior High Schools. Mr. Rogg also taught for two years at Jonesville High School, in Jonesville, MI, before returning to Rochester. Mr. Rogg was also at seasonal Naturalist at Stoney Creek Metropark, a place he loved, from when it opened in 1964 and until his retirement over 40 years later.
The couple welcomed two sons into their home and Mr. Rogg set about teaching them how, by his excellent example, to be men. His sons remember him as a patient and loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Mr. Rogg was an accomplished woodworker who made furniture and clocks. He was a generous individual who loved to help his sons with home improvement projects. Mr. Rogg was also a dedicated member of the First Congregational Church in Rochester.
The body has been cremated. A graveside Memorial Service is scheduled for July 20, 2019, at Mt. Avon Cemetery in Rochester at 11:00 a.m.. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Rogg’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Huron-Clinton Metroparks Foundation, http://weblink.donorperfect.com/metroparks_gift_form; or the Rochester Community Schools Foundation, at https://rcs-foundation.org/.
The family would like to thank Mr. Rogg’s Home Instead Caregivers, the nursing staff of 5 South at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital (Crittenton), and Residential Hospice of Sunrise Assisted Living in Rochester, for their dedicated and loving care of Mr. Rogg.
