Obituary for Margaret Catherine Murasky

Margaret Catherine Murasky (nee McCabe) died peacefully on August 12, 2019 in Rochester, Michigan. She was born in Detroit on February 5, 1924. She married her husband, George, in 1944, just days after he returned from service as a B-17 crew member in World War II. He died in 2009. Over the years, they resided in Detroit, Ferndale and Royal Oak before moving to Rochester in 1965. They had seven children: Thomas (Candi) of Rochester; Donna (Craig Dean) of Washington DC; Diane Dickson (Dickson) of Grove City, Ohio; Debra Tatters (Robert) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Doreen (James Emerick) of Dexter, Michigan; Matthew (Sue) of Rochester; and Mark (Melissa) of Scottsdale, Arizona. Margaret leaves them behind as well as 13 grandchildren (Thomas, Katie, Christopher, Jacob, Bradley, Avery, Alex, Natalie, Parker, Drew, Macy, Payson and Sedona) and four great grandchildren (Cameron, Luke, Elizabeth and Amelia).
Margaret lived a challenging life, growing up during the Great Depression and World War II. She thrived raising her children born over a 20-year span. Her ever-growing family was the center of her life. She was a founding member of St. Irenaeus Church in Rochester and was active in the church for over 50 years, contributing her efforts to assist those who were aged or in mourning. She had a wide circle of friends and enjoyed gardening, pinochle and the Detroit Tigers.
Margaret was resilient. Her resilience enabled her to live independently in her own home until last year when her children finally persuaded her to relocate to the Bellbrook senior community in Rochester. She truly was the little engine that could. She was an inspiration of determination, graciousness and humor to all who met her. She had a steadfast moral compass but was not mired in the past. She accepted and quietly embraced sweeping social changes that have made society more open and welcoming to all. Her family greatly misses her and will not forget the example she set of a life well-lived.
There will be a funeral mass for Margaret at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church. The family invites you to join a luncheon celebration immediately following the Mass at the parish hall. She will be buried with her husband at Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests considering making a memorial contribution to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
