Obituary for Alana "Mikie" Neal

NEAL, ALANA “Mikie” of Lake Orion; passed away on June 7th, 2019 at the age of 68. Alana was born on August 22nd, 1950, to her father Alex Mack and mother Clarabelle Mack. She was the sister of Nanci Hahn. She was the beloved wife of Bill Neal for 48 years, and the loving mother to Scott and Suzi, and a proud mother-in-law to her son-in-law, Suzi’s husband Chris Parks.

Alana was a lifelong Catholic, and a member of Christ the Redeemer, Catholic Church in Lake Orion, Michigan.

Alana graduated from Manistee High School and shortly after started at Michigan State University, and then transferred briefly to West Short Community College. During her time at West Shore Community College, she met her future husband, Bill Neal. They fell in love, transferred to Michigan State University together, and proceeded to get married. Alana earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nutrition while at Michigan State University. Alana worked at a home for the disabled in Lansing, and used her training in nutrition to teach the residents how to care for and nourish themselves.

Bill and Alana enjoyed a long, happy marriage. They lived in Lansing, Ann Arbor, Belleville, and eventually, settled in Lake Orion, making it home. After many years of enjoying one another’s company, they decided to make some additions to their family, and had their son Scott in 1987 and their daughter, Suzi, in 1992. They were thrilled to become parents and Alana loved her children dearly, and did everything she could to care for them and bring them joy.

Alana enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and her beloved cat, Jester. Alana also enjoyed visiting Manistee, Michigan frequently to watch the Lake Michigan sunset with her husband Bill. Alana always cared for everyone around her, and exhibited a selflessness that was truly exceptional. Even in her last days, Alana always wanted to make sure that those she loved were taken care of and doing well.

Alana will be dearly missed by all who love her.
