With almost 90 years of industry expertise, Modetz Funeral Homes has earned a well-deserved reputation of extraordinary services throughout Michigan. With locations in Waterford, Rochester and Orion Township, each facility is following in the fine tradition of the Modetz Family of Funeral Homes.
In 1970, John Modetz sought employment with the late Robert S. Rice, then proprietor of the Fred Wood Funeral Home in Livonia, telling the man that he too wanted to be a funeral director. Sixteen years after meeting Mr. Rice, John, along with his wife, Mary, opened their first funeral home with the 1986 purchase of the Potere-Modetz Funeral Home in Downtown Rochester. In 1989, John and Mary, together with longtime employee Timothy R. Simpson, purchased the well-recognized landmark of what would become the Riverside Chapel Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home in Waterford. In 2003, they added an absolutely stunning addition to the Modetz Family of Funeral Homes; the Modetz Funeral Home & Cremation Service-Silverbell Chapel in Orion Township. John dedicated Silverbell Chapel to the late Robert S. Rice.
