I had the privilege of working with Herb on the Army Science Board for many years. He was a true technologist, a great thinker, and always ready to do stuff for others. I am sorry to hear of his passing, and will remember him for ever. May he rest in well-deserved peace. --Prasanna Mulgaonkar

Joyce & Herb Jr. Sylvia and I send our deepest condolences to you and the family. I truly appreciated and will deeply miss Herb's true caring for his friends and employees. He always asked how I was doing? He really meant it. His support to the Nation's Defense over five + decades as a soldier , government civilian, defense volunteer was truly remarkable. I am so glad I had the opportunity to sit, share a meal and talk with Herb at the TARDEC Christmas party table last December, a great memory! Herb shared the early vision of mobile robotics and helped shape the vision and support the early program formation. His support to the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition over many years was outstanding even as he was ill, rain or shine. We will miss Herb at many of the defense gatherings but will always keep him in our thoughts & prayers! Jerry & Sylvia Lane
